Dr. Michael P. Malmquist is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who brings advanced training, surgical precision, and a deep commitment to patient care. His clinical focus includes bone regeneration, bone grafting, dental implant therapy, orthognathic (jaw) surgery, facial trauma, and oral pathology. Known for his interest in regenerative medicine and implant reconstruction, Dr. Malmquist combines cutting-edge treatment with genuine compassion for his patients.

Portland Roots, National Training

Born and raised in Portland, Dr. Malmquist graduated from Jesuit High School before earning honors at The Citadel: Military College of South Carolina. He continued his education at Boston University School of Dental Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree.

Following dental school, he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the prestigious Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He then pursued an additional year of advanced training with Dr. Pedro Franco, focusing on implant therapy, full mouth reconstruction, orthognathic surgery, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery.

Committed to Education and Innovation

In addition to private practice, Dr. Malmquist actively contributes to the advancement of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters, and he has lectured nationally on topics including implant surgery, bone regeneration, and reconstructive techniques.

He previously served as a professor at Oregon Health & Science University and continues to share his expertise as a visiting professor at institutions such as the University of California, University of Alabama, University of Indiana, and the University of Minnesota.

Professional Involvement

Dr. Malmquist is on staff at several Portland-area hospitals, where he provides surgical care and trauma support. He is a Fellow of both the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He also holds memberships in the Western Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Oregon and American Dental Associations, and the Washington and Multnomah County Dental Societies.

Service Beyond the Practice

Dedicated to making a broader impact, Dr. Malmquist has participated in medical outreach programs serving underserved communities both locally and internationally. His volunteer work reflects his belief that quality care should be accessible to all.

Life Outside the Office

Outside of his surgical work, Dr. Malmquist is a proud Oregonian who enjoys spending time with his wife, Ida, and their two children, Mila and Dallas. He’s an enthusiastic fan of the Oregon Ducks and the Portland Trail Blazers and enjoys playing golf with family and friends whenever he can.
